With an exceptional field including 4 Olympics gold medalists ex-world champions and national raod race champions as well as a host of local talent this years race was someting special. The pace set by Wiggins and Tennant was just too much for the rest of the field and the two had a lead of nearly five minutes at one stage. On the line Tennant took the glory with Wiggins settling for second place. Wilkinson gave halfords third with the rest of the bunch strung out on the nasty climb to the finish. for full results see race section |

As you know my racing season started in anger at the begining of September back at the Manchester Velodrome. (Forget the crit at Preston). At the end of the April i was leading the vets league on the monday nights racing. I went into the racing with not much leg speed an was sure i was going to loose my lead. Mark Soden from the Buxton cc is the only person close to take the lead away. Well not suprisingly my lead dropped from 6 points to 1/2 point over the first three sessions. I thought it would have been more. The leg speed came back for the short events and at the start of tonights session (20th Oct) i was 10 points clear. I picked up 6.5 points tonight and Mark picked up 1.5........looking good. most of my points have been won in the Devil. Iv been placed 1st or 2nd every night in this event. Very pleased with that realy. Up to tonights Madison i have taken a pasting. loosing a lap every week. Had a fast partner tonight and picked up 2nd. All in all it is going well. 5 more weeks to go but i am missing next weeks but i feel comfortable about this. will give you another update in a few weeks. Mick Browne |
